Songwriter, producer, actor, bandleader and vocalist, James Hudson has successfully worked every angle of the music industry over the past two decades. Hudson is now simultaneously launching his solo gospel recording career and an independent production company, with a full complement of gospel recording artists and musicians. Hudson began his music career in the early 70’s as a writer and producer of music and narration for a series of short documentaries that were aired on CBS and NBC. The ‘Easter Story’ received much acclaim, including its presentation of “A Lamp Unto My Feet” on CBS and under its own title in later years on NBC, as well as a follow-up story in Reader’s Digest.
Hudson’s new solo career will feature some of the most innovative ‘gospel’ and ‘crossover’ music with a sweet blend of Jazz, R&B and melodious gospel sounds. For his first release, Hudson has written and collaborated on most of the lyrics. Hudson, being the first off the block of his own production company, Hudson Productions will be featuring a cadre of artists including a Jazz/Gospel guitarists; a mass choir of 250 voices and other undiscovered talent including a few surprise R&B artists gone gospel. Hudson credits his “Sheppard” for the inspiration of lyrics for his beautifully defined music.
Jimmie showed an early gift for music, first with a church choir in Chicago, Illinois. Due in part to innate talent, but also because of his deep commitment to his craft, Jimmie faced the challenge of staying relevant as a musician as he grew from boy to man, and his voice matured into a shining tenor.
His voice was in the baritone / tenor register, but there was never any doubt of its effect on the soul of the listener. His control of tone, phrasing and emotional inflection touches the spirit, evokes thought and inspires the heart. Jimmie’s voice caresses lyrics with a reverence for the songs story and respect for the song’s true message.
"When I sing, I confirm my place in the scheme of things," he said. "Once I knew that, I understood God had put me here for a reason. All I needed was the courage to be me. That courage is a lifetime ongoing project.
Offering a rich span of songs with genre fusions aplenty, his compositions cover everything from ethnic diversity in the U.S. and fantastic utopian communities, love of family, the Pan-African journey (Diaspora), to human relationships and a transcendent love of God.
